In addition to increasing lubricity, the black oxide treatment also creates small pockets on the tool surface that are able to hold coolant near the cutting edge for longer periods of time. As a result of the black oxide surface treatment on high-speed steel, the tool is enhanced in heat resistance and extended in its tool life, with a thinr oxide layer than that typically used to identify cobalt steel tools; its performance is similar to that of uncoated tools. It is possible to utilize round shanks with many different types of toolholders.
Drills with a split point of 118 or 135 degrees mean less force is required to drill into the workpiece, preventing the drill from slipping on the surface of the material, self-centering and reducing the thrust required to drill. This drill has a unique design with a self-centering tip that prevents slipping, making work faster and easier. Increased drill speed means less heat is generated and more wear is achieved, extending the life of the drill. The cutting edge remains sharp and withstands continuous use. When operating in a counterclockwise direction (right-hand cutting), helical-fluted cutters expel chips upward through the cut to reduce clogging.
